RE

At Shipley CE Primary, we recognise that RE has a central place within our distinctive curriculum and is seen as a core subject. It strengthens the school vision and values which are at the heart of what we aim to do in every aspect of our school life. The importance placed on the development of the whole child academically, emotionally, spiritually and morally is reflected in the RE curriculum.

RE is about developing a theological and religious understanding through big questions that focus on:

  1. Enabling pupils to know and understand about Christianity as the living faith that has most shaped British culture and heritage and which influences the lives of people worldwide.
  2. Enabling pupils to know and understand about other major world religions and non-religious world views, their impact on society, culture and the wider world, enabling pupils to express ideas and thoughts.
  3. Contributing to the development of pupils’ own spiritual and philosophical convictions, exploring and enriching their own beliefs and values.

This prepares our pupils with the knowledge, skills and understanding for citizenship in today’s diverse society.
